How Portobello NJ Oakland Handles Private Parties at Both Venues

How Portobello NJ Oakland Handles Private Parties at Both Venues

When someone calls us about a private party, the first question we hear is almost always the same: "Are you the restaurant or the banquet hall?" Portobello NJ actually operates two separate venues on Ramapo Valley Road in Oakland, NJ, and understanding how each one works can genuinely change how you plan your event. Whether your guest list has 25 people or 250, one of our two venues is built for exactly what you need.

We've been hosting private parties for more than thirty years, including birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, bar and bat mitzvahs, sweet sixteens, quinceañeras, school banquets, and corporate gatherings.

Two Addresses, One Standard of Hospitality

Portobello has operated in the heart of Bergen County since 1992, and both venues carry the same commitment to attentive service and exceptional Italian and Modern American cuisine. The difference is scale. One venue is built for intimate gatherings, the other for larger milestone celebrations.

The Restaurant: Right-Sized for Parties of 30 to 130

Portobello Feasts at 175 Ramapo Valley Road is where smaller and mid-size groups find their footing. Seven named rooms give you real options. The Sala and the Cucina each accommodate up to 120 guests. The Lounge fits 45, the Library seats 30, and the Bar handles cocktail-style gatherings for up to 50. The minimum for a party package is 30 adults.

Package formats include a Sit Down option, a Family Style Package, and the Sala Package, which adds hot and cold antipasto served family style. Think fried calamari, clams casino, garlic shrimp, fresh mozzarella, and roasted peppers arriving before the pasta and entree courses. There's also a Feasts Brunch for a minimum of 40 adults, with family-style breakfast items, a cold display, and hot entrees. Bar options at the restaurant include a three or four-hour premium open bar, unlimited beer and wine packages, and bottle service for wine and champagne.

The Banquet Hall: Built for 50 to 250 Guests

The banquet hall at 155 Ramapo Valley Road is where larger celebrations live. Six rooms give you genuine flexibility. The Dome Room, our most sought-after space, holds 70 to 120 guests. Combine it with the Annex, and you accommodate 120 to 250. Smaller configurations include the Front Room, Back Room, and Annex individually. The Front Room holds 50 to 60 guests, while the Back Room and Annex Room each accommodate 50 to 70, and the Main Floor for 70 to 130.

Every party at the banquet hall is set with gold Chiavari chairs with white seats. All packages include a fitted-to-the-floor ivory tablecloth with a matching napkin. Colored overlays or ivory Majestic overlays are available for an additional fee, and mitzvah and wedding packages include the Majestic overlay as part of the standard package.

Food and Beverage at the Banquet Hall

Dinner packages run as a Dinner Buffet or Plated Dinner, both for 50 or more guests. The buffet opens with a cold antipasto station, provolone, soppressata, fresh mozzarella and tomatoes, roasted peppers, marinated mushrooms, string bean salad, focaccia, and bruschetta. From there, guests move through a pasta chaffer, entree selections, and a carving station. Salad, dessert, coffee, tea, and soda are all included.

The Plated Dinner follows a multi-course structure: pasta, salad, entree with the chef's choice of potato and vegetable, and dessert. Pasta shapes include farfalle, fusilli, penne, and rigatoni, with sauces ranging from marinara and pink vodka to specialty preparations like Marechiara and Michelangelo. Entrees span chicken, fish, and veal preparations, with beef selections like chargrilled filet mignon, prime rib, and surf and turf reserved for plated dinners.

Every banquet package includes a special occasion cake or Italian pastries. Fillings range from cannoli and chocolate mousse to dulce de leche and lemon, with whipped cream or buttercream frosting. Edible image upgrades are available for an additional charge.

Policies Worth Knowing Before You Book

Menu and linen selections are due one month before your event. Final guest count, floor plan, and payment are due one week prior. Outside vendors are welcome. A preferred list covering DJs, photographers, florists, and more is available on the banquet hall website, and all vendors must submit a certificate of insurance. Florists and decorators may arrive the day of the event for setup. Portobello does not provide decorating services.

Appointments to see either venue are available Monday through Sunday from 12 PM to 6:30 PM, with late appointments on request.

Conclusion

Portobello has spent more than thirty years earning a reputation in Bergen County for doing private parties well, and that comes down to two things: the right room for your guest count and food that people actually talk about on the drive home. Whether you're planning an intimate lunch for 30 in the Sala or a full dinner celebration for 200 in the Dome and Annex, we have a format, a menu, and a team ready to make it work. Come see either venue in person any day of the week.
